Chicagoans who live in the city's West Pullman neighborhood pulled up to find their neighborhood grocery store closed for business this week. "I was here a few days ago and I noticed it was empty," Ebony Williams said.

Aldi is closing its grocery store in West Pullman, in a move a Far South Side alderman said leaves the neighborhood “without a single grocery store offering affordable, high-quality fresh food.” Aldi is the latest grocer to shutter a supermarket on the city’s South and West sides,

Meanwhile, the Batavia-based company opened a Forest Park location last week as it continues a national expansion plan, announced earlier this year.

The sudden closure of West Pullman’s Aldi, 821 W. 115th St., came one year after Ald. Ronnie Mosley (21st) met with company representatives who “assured our community that they were here to stay,” Mosley said in a statement. At the time, Aldi leaders said they also intended to remodel and expand the store, Mosley said.
