MONACO (AP) — Barcelona's perfect start to the season hit its first stumbling block when defender Eric Garcia was sent off after just 11 minutes at Monaco in the revamped Champions League on Thursday. Garcia pulled back Takumi Minamino when the Japan forward intercepted a panicky pass out from Barcelona goalkeeper Marc-André ter Stegen.

Eric García was only on the pitch for 10 minutes against Monaco before a red card sent him to the locker room. Barcelona's 2024–25 Champions League campaign got off to a nightmare start at the Stade Louis II.

Former Manchester City centre-back Eric Garcia was given his marching orders after initially being shown a yellow card. There was a moment of confusion for those inside the ground and the many watching from home. The referee brandished the yellow card before gesturing for the Spanish defender to make his way off the pitch.
